Description

“Keyhole” is a vertical ceramic sculpture whose silhouette evokes an ancient portal or symbolic marker. A rounded upper form rests on a tapering monolithic base, while rhythmic carved lines flow across the entire surface, giving the sculpture a sense of movement and mystery.

Smoky greys, earthy browns, deep mineral tones and warm golden nuances interact across the surface. Naturally formed ash glaze gathers within the carved pattern, while occasional glass-like runs and matte textures emphasise the relief and create a constantly changing interplay of light and shadow. Each side reveals a different composition, inviting the work to be experienced from multiple viewpoints.

The sculpture was fired in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks across the surface. These processes give the work a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 55 cm

“Keyhole” can become a strong focal point within an interior or architectural space. Its vertical presence, symbolic silhouette and deeply carved surface create a contemplative relationship between form, material, time and fire.
