Description
This ceramic sculpture is distinguished by its compact yet powerful spatial form. Concave and angular planes fold around a central void, creating a sense of internal tension, openness and movement. From different viewpoints, the silhouette, the interplay of light and shadow, and the perception of the inner space continually shift.
Deep earthy, charcoal, brown and mineral-grey tones move across the surface. In some areas, naturally formed ash glaze becomes smoother and more glass-like, while elsewhere the surface remains matte, rugged and tactile. These variations in texture and colour reinforce the sculpture’s archaic and elemental character.
The sculpture was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the work a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Height: 30 cm
The central void and shifting silhouette invite the sculpture to be experienced from multiple viewpoints. Its concentrated form and expressive surface allow it to stand as an independent spatial focal point or as a collectible work of contemporary ceramic art.
