Description
“The Sun Is Around the Corner” is an Anagama vase distinguished by its architectural, faceted form and striking surface colour. Geometric planes give the piece a strong sculptural presence, while the narrower neck and restrained silhouette maintain a sense of balance.
Pale grey and mineral tones meet darker smoky areas and rich golden-ochre nuances across the surface. A warm, light-filled passage on one side contrasts with the cooler surrounding tones and becomes a natural focal point of the composition. Vertical runs of naturally formed ash glaze further emphasise the height and architectural structure of the vase.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. Each plane received flame and ash differently, giving every side of the piece its own colour and textural character.
Height: 36 cm
Diameter 17 cm
“The Sun Is Around the Corner” can be used for floral or branch arrangements, while its architectural form and expressive surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art. The interaction of form, fire and ash gives the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
