Description
“Snuggle” is a sculptural Anagama vase whose form evokes two figures leaning gently into one another. Its intertwined silhouette combines angular planes with softer organic curves, creating a subtle tension between architectural structure and intimacy.
Viewed from different angles, the dual form continually changes. At times the closeness of the two volumes becomes dominant; from other viewpoints, deeper shadows, edges and internal spaces emerge. This shifting silhouette gives the vase movement and a strong sculptural presence.
Earthy browns, smoky greys and charcoal tones move across the surface. In some areas, naturally formed ash glaze becomes smoother and subtly lustrous, while elsewhere the surface remains matte, rugged and reminiscent of weathered stone. Individual traces of flame and ash further emphasise the changing planes of the form.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Height: 57 cm
Diameter 37 cm
“Snuggle” can be used for floral or branch arrangements, although its intertwined sculptural form allows it to stand primarily as an independent work of ceramic art. The closeness of the two forms evokes connection, mutual support, intimacy and calm.
