Description

This small Anagama vase is distinguished by its vertical sculptural form, built from a sequence of softly transitioning volumes. A fuller lower section, narrowed middle and rising neck create a lively rhythm, while the subtly irregular, opening rim gives the piece an organic character.
Earthy browns, smoky greys, muted ochre and deeper charcoal tones move across the surface. In some areas, naturally formed ash glaze becomes smoother and subtly lustrous, while elsewhere the surface remains matte, granular and mineral. Different planes received flame and ash differently during the firing, allowing the colour and texture of the vase to change from one viewpoint to another.
The vase was fired for 114 hours in the Karmazinai Anagama, reaching approximately 1300 °C, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 18 cm

The vase is suitable for small floral, grass or branch arrangements. Its expressive silhouette and richly varied surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art.
