Description
This Anagama vase is distinguished by its restrained cylindrical form, gently narrowing shoulders and small rounded neck. Its quiet silhouette allows the richly layered surface to become the central expression of the piece.
Deep charcoal, bronze, earthy brown and rust-toned nuances move across the vase. Fine ash deposits, irregularities and mineral textures cover the surface, while in some areas the naturally formed ash glaze becomes smoother and subtly glass-like. The interplay of matte, rugged and gently lustrous textures gives the piece remarkable depth, recalling weathered stone or an ancient vessel emerging from the earth.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Height: 19 cm
The vase is suitable for small floral or branch arrangements. Its restrained form and richly textured surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art.
