Description

This Anagama vase is distinguished by a sculptural composition in which an angular lower section transitions into a softly rounded body and a narrow, gently flaring neck. The contrast between geometric and organic forms gives the piece a distinctive character, while its balanced proportions create a calm, grounded silhouette.
Rich bronze, earthy brown, smoky grey and charcoal tones move across the surface. In some areas, naturally formed ash glaze becomes smoother and subtly lustrous, while a lighter vertical glaze run emphasises the height and rhythm of the form. Different planes received flame and ash differently during the firing, giving each side its own colour and textural character.
The vase was fired for 114 hours in the Karmazinai Anagama, reaching approximately 1300 °C, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 21 cm

The vase is suitable for small floral or branch arrangements, while its sculptural form and richly varied surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art.
