Description
This one-of-a-kind handmade cup is distinguished by a naturally formed image on its surface, evocative of a sun rising above a mountain landscape. Warm reddish-brown, burnt ochre and sandy tones flow into one another, while lighter deposits of ash glaze create the impression of distant peaks and light. From different angles, new transitions of colour, shadow and traces of fire become visible.
The piece was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama wood-fired high-temperature kiln. During the long firing, flame and naturally melted wood ash spontaneously formed this unique surface pattern. It was neither painted nor planned in advance – the composition emerged entirely through the firing process.
“Sun Over Mountains” is not only a functional vessel but also a small collectible work of ceramic art, expressing the unpredictability of Anagama firing and the collaboration between nature and the artist.
