Description
This Anagama vase draws on the traditional pitcher form, with a rounded body, narrowing neck, subtly flared rim and expressive handle. Its classical proportions create a familiar, balanced silhouette, while the richly varied Anagama surface gives the piece a distinctive contemporary presence.
Deep earthy browns and chestnut tones dominate the surface, shifting in places into smoky greys, bronze and warmer golden nuances. Naturally formed ash glaze developed differently across the vessel – some areas have a gentle sheen, while others remain matte and textured. These variations emphasise the rounded body, the line of the neck and the expressive curve of the handle.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally formed the ash glaze, colour transitions and individual fire marks. The final surface depends on the vessel’s position in the kiln, the movement of flame and the accumulation of ash, making the result impossible to reproduce in exactly the same way.
Height: 25 cm
Diameter 16 cm
The vase is suitable for floral, grass or branch arrangements. Its traditional pitcher-inspired proportions, expressive handle and richly varied surface also allow it to stand as an independent work of ceramic art.
