Description

This handmade cup is distinguished by its tall, gently tapered form and dramatic surface composition. Against a pale creamy and sandy background, a deep charcoal flame mark runs vertically down the vessel, resembling a spontaneous brushstroke in ink. The contrast between light and dark areas gives the piece a strong graphic quality, while natural surface irregularities preserve the lively character of clay and fire.

The cup was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama wood-fired high-temperature kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the long firing, flame and wood ash naturally formed the ash glaze, colour transitions and this expressive fire mark. Every Anagama-fired piece is one of a kind and can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 10 cm
Diameter: 7,5 cm

Suitable for tea, sake or other small beverage rituals. Its restrained form and striking surface composition also allow it to be appreciated as a small collectible ceramic work.
