Description
This handmade tea cup is distinguished by its soft, rounded form and richly contrasting surface. Deep charcoal, smoky grey and earthy brown tones blend with pale creamy and golden areas of naturally formed ash glaze. Some parts of the surface remain matte and tactile, while others become smoother and more glass-like, giving the piece strong visual and tactile depth.
Its subtly irregular rim and gently raised foot reflect the natural character associated with the wabi-sabi aesthetic. Each side of the cup reveals a slightly different surface composition, making it rewarding both to use and to admire.
The cup was fired for more than 100 hours in the Dūkštos Anagama, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the long firing, flame and wood ash naturally formed the ash glaze, colour transitions and individual fire and yohen marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Height: 8,5 cm
Diameter: 12 cm
Designed for tea and slow, attentive drinking rituals. Its expressive surface, tactile quality and sculptural form also allow the cup to be appreciated as a collectible ceramic work.
