Description

This Anagama pitcher is distinguished by its tall, gently undulating form, generous handle and clearly shaped pouring lip. A narrower middle section and flared upper body give the vessel a light, balanced silhouette, while its subtle asymmetry adds movement to the form.
Deep browns, reddish-brown, smoky grey and warm golden tones move across the surface. Wood ash accumulated around the upper body and handle, melting in places into naturally formed ash glaze and creating lighter, gently lustrous areas. Elsewhere, the surface remains matte, darker and more textured. As the pitcher is turned, different patterns shaped by flame and ash become visible.
The vessel was wheel-thrown and fired for 114 hours in the Karmazinai Anagama, reaching approximately 1300 °C, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally formed the colour transitions, ash glaze and individual fire marks. The resulting surface cannot be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 19 cm

The pitcher can be used for floral or branch arrangements or displayed on its own. Its handle, pouring lip and richly varied surface allow it to function both as a vessel and as a ceramic art object.
