Description

This Anagama vase is distinguished by its calm rounded form, narrow neck and subtly tilted rim. Its restrained silhouette allows the surface to become the main expression of the piece: pale creamy and ochre tones across the upper body gradually transition into smoky greys, muted greenish nuances and deep charcoal tones toward the base.
The shifts in colour and texture developed naturally during the firing. In some areas, the ash glaze becomes smoother and more glass-like, while elsewhere the surface remains matte, granular and mineral. A warmer ember-toned area on one side reveals the direct influence of flame and introduces a subtle tension into the otherwise quiet form.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 33 cm

The vase is suitable for floral or branch arrangements, while its restrained silhouette and richly varied surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art. Each side reveals a different composition of colour, texture and traces of fire.
