Description
This small Anagama vase is distinguished by its softly oval form, gently narrowing upper section and restrained rim. Horizontal throwing lines remain visible across the surface, creating a subtle rhythm and revealing traces of the forming process.
Pale creamy and ochre tones gradually transition into earthy browns, smoky greys and deeper charcoal nuances. Naturally formed ash glaze becomes softly glass-like in some areas, while elsewhere the surface remains matte and mineral. Colour and texture vary around the vase, revealing the different ways flame and ash interacted with each side.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in the Dūkštos Anagama, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Height: 18 cm
Diameter 13 cm
The vase is suitable for a single flower or a small floral or branch arrangement. Its restrained form and atmospheric surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art.
