Description

“Gemini” is a sculptural Anagama vase composed of two related forms rising side by side. Its dual silhouette creates a sense of balance and tension: the two volumes appear closely connected, yet each retains its own distinct character.
Faceted architectural planes in the lower section gradually transition into softer upper forms and two separate openings. As the vase is viewed from different angles, its proportions, the relationship between the two volumes, and the rhythm of light and shadow continually shift. This dual structure allows the work to reveal a different expression from every viewpoint.
Warm earthy browns interact with smoky greys, charcoal tones and lighter ash nuances across the surface. One side appears warmer and more directly marked by flame, while the other is darker and more mineral in character. Naturally formed ash glaze, matte textures and individual fire marks further emphasise the differences between the two forms.
The vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.

Height: 46 cm

“Gemini” can be used for floral or branch arrangements, although its dual architectural form gives the work a distinctly sculptural presence. The relationship between the two connected volumes evokes ideas of duality, intimacy, balance and individuality.
