Description
This Raku Chawan is made in the traditional wide, rounded form associated with Matcha preparation and the Japanese tea ritual. Its comfortable proportions and open rim make it suitable for holding in both hands, while the bold surface decoration gives the piece a distinctly contemporary expression.
Vivid red and deep blue brushstrokes move freely across a creamy white surface, creating a different composition from every angle. Fine crackle patterns, smoke traces and subtle variations formed during the Raku firing add depth and movement to the painted surface.
In Raku firing, the final appearance is shaped by intense heat, rapid cooling and reduction. As a result, the crackle pattern, smoke markings and glaze variations develop differently on every piece and cannot be reproduced exactly.
Height: 9 cm
Diameter 12 cm
The cup is intended for Matcha and other tea rituals, while its vivid combination of red, blue and creamy white also allows it to be appreciated as an individual work of ceramic art.
