Description
A specialized workshop for ceramicists who wish to gain hands-on experience with the long wood-firing process and participate in preparing the Dūkštos Anagama kiln, loading it, and conducting the firing.
The practical workshop lasts at least 7 days and covers the various stages of the entire firing process: preparation, selection and arrangement of the pieces, loading the kiln, firing, and monitoring the firing process.
Participation requires significant physical exertion, endurance, and a readiness to work in shifts, including during the night. It is an intensive, hands-on experience designed for those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the principles of wood firing, the control of kiln atmosphere, flame movement, and the effects of natural ash on ceramic surfaces.
Duration – 100+ hours
The price for the practical workshop is €1,000 per person.
Location – Anagama Ceramics Centre, Dūkštos.
To fire your pieces together, the materials used must be compatible and suitable for high-temperature Anagama firing.
The cost of firing your pieces is calculated separately based on the volume they occupy in the kiln: €0.015 per 1 cm³.
Participation in the internship must be arranged in advance, as the number of spots is limited and specific dates depend on the planned Anagama firings.
