This small Anagama vase is distinguished by its elegant vertical form, with a fuller rounded body gradually rising into a narrow neck and subtly opening rim. Its restrained silhouette allows the naturally formed surface to become the central expression of the piece.
\nOlive, earthy brown, reddish and deep charcoal tones move across the surface. A distinctive vertical fire mark rises along the neck and upper body, recalling the trunk of a tree or a natural trace within a landscape. Subtle throwing lines remain visible across the body, adding rhythm and tactile character to the form.
\nMatte, stone-like textures shift into gently glass-like areas of naturally formed ash glaze. These variations in colour and surface allow the vase to reveal a different character as the light and viewing angle change.
\nThe vase was fired for more than 100 hours in an Anagama kiln, with no glaze applied beforehand. During the prolonged wood firing, flame and wood ash naturally shaped the surface colours, ash glaze and individual fire marks. These processes give the piece a singular character that can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
\nThe vase is suitable for small floral, grass or branch arrangements, while its elegant silhouette and atmospheric surface also allow it to stand as an independent collectible work of ceramic art.<\/p>\n
